How to Use the EOSB Calculator — Step by Step

1

Step 1: Enter Your Basic Monthly Salary

Type your basic monthly salary in SAR. This is your base pay without housing, transportation, or other allowances. Most employers calculate EOSB on basic salary only.

2

Step 2: Enter Your Service Period

Enter your total years and months of service with your current employer. Include all continuous service — even partial years count proportionally under Saudi Labor Law.

3

Step 3: Select Your Reason for Leaving

Choose whether you are resigning, being terminated, or reaching the end of your contract. Your reason affects the final EOSB amount significantly under Article 85.

4

Step 4: Choose Your Contract Type

Select fixed-term (limited) or indefinite (unlimited) contract. Fixed-term contracts may have different rules if you resign before the contract ends.

5

Step 5: Calculate Your EOSB

Click 'Calculate EOSB' to see your estimated end of service benefit. The result shows the full breakdown: first 5 years, subsequent years, and any resignation reduction.

Understanding Your EOSB Results

The End of Service Benefit (EOSB) is calculated using the formula defined in Saudi Labor Law Article 84. For the first 5 years of service, you are entitled to half a month's basic salary for each year. For each year after the first 5, you are entitled to one full month's basic salary. Partial years are calculated proportionally by dividing the annual benefit by 12 and multiplying by the number of months worked. If you resign, Article 85 applies a reduction: less than 2 years = zero EOSB; between 2 and 5 years = one-third of the full amount; between 5 and 10 years = two-thirds; more than 10 years = full amount. Termination and contract end typically entitle you to the full EOSB without reduction.

Real Example

Suppose your basic salary is 10,000 SAR and you have worked for 7 years and 6 months, resigning after 5 years. First 5 years: 5 x 5,000 SAR (half-month) = 25,000 SAR Years 6-7: 2 x 10,000 SAR (full month) = 20,000 SAR Partial 6 months: 0.5 x 10,000 SAR = 5,000 SAR Total EOSB (Article 84): 50,000 SAR Resignation reduction (5-10 years): 2/3 applied Final EOSB: 50,000 x 2/3 = 33,333 SAR This means you would receive approximately 33,333 SAR as your end of service benefit.

Frequently Asked Questions About EOSB

How is EOSB calculated in Saudi Arabia for 2024?
EOSB is calculated per Saudi Labor Law Article 84: half a month's basic salary for each of the first 5 years, and one full month's basic salary for each subsequent year. For example, with 12,000 SAR basic salary and 8 years: first 5 years = 5 x 6,000 = 30,000 SAR, next 3 years = 3 x 12,000 = 36,000 SAR, total = 66,000 SAR before adjustments.
Do I get end of service benefits if I resign before 2 years?
No. Under Article 85 of the Saudi Labor Law, employees who resign with less than 2 years of continuous service are not entitled to any End of Service Benefits. This rule applies regardless of the reason for resignation.
Is EOSB calculated on basic salary or total salary including allowances?
EOSB is generally calculated on your basic salary only. Housing allowance, transportation allowance, commissions, and other benefits are typically excluded unless your employment contract specifically states they should be included. Check your 'contract for the exact terms.
How much gratuity do I get if I resign after 3 years in Saudi Arabia?
If you resign between 2 and 5 years of service, you receive one-third (1/3) of the full EOSB amount. For example, with a 10,000 SAR basic salary and 3 years of service: full EOSB = 3 x 5,000 = 15,000 SAR. Since you resign between 2-5 years, you get 15,000 x 1/3 = 5,000 SAR.
Can my employer deduct from my EOSB for resigning early from a fixed-term contract?
Yes. If you have a fixed-term contract and resign before it ends, your employer may deduct up to 50% of your EOSB to cover damages. This deduction is separate from the Article 85 reduction for resignation.
How is EOSB calculated for partial years of service?
Partial years are calculated proportionally. If you worked 6 months beyond a full year, you receive half of that year's entitlement. For example, if you are due one full month's salary (10,000 SAR) for a year, 6 months gives you 10,000 x 6/12 = 5,000 SAR.
What is the difference between EOSB for termination vs resignation?
If your employer terminates your contract, you are entitled to the full EOSB under Article 84 with no reduction. If you resign, Article 85 applies a reduction: 0% under 2 years, 1/3 between 2-5 years, 2/3 between 5-10 years, and 100% after 10 years.
